The current work

Harry Reid International Airport’s Department of Aviation is repaving roadways inside the Airport Connector Tunnel in both directions. In an August 22 notice, the airport said work was expected to continue through the end of December.

The posted arrangement reduces each direction to two lanes between 5 a.m. and midnight. Between midnight and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, each direction is reduced to one lane. The airport advises drivers to allow additional travel time.

Why this project matters

FOX5 reported that the tunnel was receiving its first repaving in 32 years and described deteriorated pavement as a reason for the work. Its August report also noted other active construction affecting the connector, making the tunnel project one part of a broader set of travel disruptions.

The operational point for passengers, workers and people dropping off travelers is straightforward: a route that remains open can still take longer when lanes are reduced. These notices do not establish a fixed delay for every trip. Traffic conditions will vary with the time of day and construction activity.

Before heading to the airport

Check the airport’s latest roadwork information and leave a time buffer when using the connector. December is the agency’s anticipated completion window, not a guarantee that restrictions disappear on a particular day.
