Your visit, explained.

Site analytics

We measure public page views and actions such as opening contractor profiles, choosing project types and neighborhoods, checking licenses, comparing contractors, opening project records, and clicking business contact links. We also measure approximate active viewing time, browser and device groups, referral domains, campaign tags, loading performance, counts of browser or result-loading errors, submitted searches without matches, section visibility, and repeated taps on controls. We also measure which recommended companies are visible and their list positions to check how exposure is distributed. Those measurements do not determine recommendation rank.

A random identifier stored in your browser tab groups activity into a visit. With basic analytics enabled, a separate random browser identifier lasts up to 90 days to estimate returning browsers. We store a keyed version, not the raw browser identifier. This cannot identify you across devices. The separate tab visit resets after 30 minutes without activity or after 24 hours. We also store a keyed version of the tab identifier. Visits and recognized browsers are estimates, not unique people. Available hosting metadata supplies approximate city, region, and country. When it is missing, our server may send your network IP address to DB-IP over an encrypted connection for a city-level lookup. We save only the city, region, and country, with a daily rotating keyed cache; raw IP addresses and precise coordinates are not saved by our analytics. The cache is cleared during subsequent daily use. Location can be inaccurate or unavailable.

When you select an address or ZIP suggestion, or submit a search that resolves to a location, we record that final location label and link it to your anonymous visit so the owner can understand search use. We do not record keystrokes, abandoned or unresolved search text, raw IP addresses, names, exact coordinates, full referring URLs, form contents, or screen recordings. Other search activity uses recognized neighborhood, trade, contractor, radius, and time-range identifiers. A searched property is not treated as your home or current location. No advertising cookies or cross-site tracking are used by this analytics feature. Live presence uses periodic updates, visibility, and recent interaction to estimate active or idle visits. Presence records expire after one day and selected search labels after 30 days during routine cleanup; expired labels are excluded from dashboard reads even before cleanup. Other detailed measurements expire after 90 days during routine cleanup; anonymous daily totals are retained longer. Correction reports have a one-year retention window.

The analytics dashboard is only available to the site owner. Signed-in owner traffic, excluded owner browsers, preview visits, identified automated tests, recognizable bots, and requests with supported privacy signals are excluded. Browser settings and blockers can reduce recorded activity. You can also turn measurement off on this browser below.

IP Geolocation by DB-IP

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control also turn off collection. Changes take full effect on the next page load.

Map searches and preferences

Addresses and map locations are processed to return nearby records. If you share a search link, it can include the address, map position, and filters you selected. Share only the location details you intend to share.

Your browser stores appearance settings locally. Maps, aerial imagery, and address lookup providers may receive network requests needed to display their content. See our coverage page for map and data sources.

Google ratings and reviews

Company ratings and review counts are saved snapshots with a check date, displayed by Hey Neighbor. Loading those ratings does not call Google Maps Platform. Review links open the matched Google business listing, where you can read the current reviews. We do not copy or display customer review text.

Business-location maps use a keyless Google Maps embed. When that embedded map loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives the network information needed to display it. This embed does not use a Google Maps Platform API key. Opening Google reviews or directions also connects you to Google.

See Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Maps terms. Available customer-review evidence is one factor in recommendations, alongside local project activity and matched active licenses; it is not a guarantee of workmanship.

Correction reports

Reports and an optional reply email are saved privately for the site owner to review, in a one-year inbox. Older reports are removed during routine cleanup. Please do not include sensitive personal information. You can use the contact form to ask about a report you submitted.

Project requests and business accounts

When you submit a project request, we store your answers, ZIP code, timing, contact information, sharing permission and optional photos privately. The site owner reviews requests and may assign them to participating businesses, whose authorized team members can see the assigned request. Requests are not public listings. Keep your private request link secure; anyone who has it can access its details. You can cancel a request from that link or contact us about access or deletion. Cancellation cannot recall information a business has already received.

Saved drafts expire after 30 days and exclude the separate contact fields. Submitted requests and photos have a one-year retention window. Expired records are inaccessible and removed during routine cleanup. Hidden photo metadata is removed from new uploads; private request links expire after one year and can be revoked by the site owner. Please avoid including personal documents or sensitive information in answers and photos. With analytics enabled, we also record questionnaire steps to identify where the form is difficult; these measurements expire after 90 days. Privacy choices and supported browser privacy signals apply to this measurement.

Business sign-in uses ChatGPT. We store the sign-in email, authority claim evidence, membership, profile changes and request status updates. Profile details you publish are public and identified as business-supplied. Profile claims and team access are reviewed or controlled separately from public permit records and license checks. Claiming is not an endorsement and does not change organic ranking.

Security and hosting

Hosting services process network information to deliver and protect the site. Application abuse controls use short-lived keyed identifiers derived from network addresses; raw IP addresses are not saved in those counters. When online requests are enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile checks submissions for automated abuse. Its provider receives network and browser information needed for that check.
