Police describe a six-hour sequence

At an October 8 briefing, Henderson police said the October 3 incident unfolded over roughly six hours, beginning with a 3:45 p.m. domestic-disturbance call on Club Crest Way and ending at a cemetery near Eastern Avenue and Patrick Lane. The department’s chronology was reported by KTNV and FOX5; it remains the police account, not an independent finding.

Police said a man had battered family members and pointed a rifle before leaving the residence. When officers returned after new gunfire reports at 8:08 p.m., they found an adult woman with two gunshot wounds. She was treated at a hospital and later released, according to both reports.

The briefing added round counts and video

Police estimated that the man fired 214 rounds from a rifle and handgun across the residence and cemetery encounters. KTNV reported that investigators collected 80 casings outside the home; FOX5 reported more than 130 casings at the cemetery scene. Those counts are attributed to investigators and do not independently reconstruct every shot.

The department played 911 audio and released body-camera and air-unit video during the briefing. Police said the man fired for about an hour from inside the cemetery toward officers, aircraft, drones, nearby structures and a civilian vehicle while officers moved bystanders away and assembled K9 and SWAT units.

Two officers each fired one shot, police say

Police said the man then fired at SWAT officers and that two Henderson SWAT officers fired almost simultaneously, each discharging one rifle round. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. KTNV and FOX5 reported that no officers or bystanders at the cemetery were injured.

Henderson identified the officers as Julian Diaz and Thomas Whitney, both department members since 2019. They remain on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. That leave is a reported employment status, not a finding of misconduct or an investigative conclusion.

What remains unresolved

The briefing materially expands the department’s version of events, but it does not resolve whether the officers’ use of force complied with law and policy. The public reporting reviewed here does not include a completed independent investigation, charging decision or final administrative finding.

This article will be updated if an investigating agency or prosecutor issues a material finding. Names and private details of surviving family members are omitted because they are not necessary to understand the public-safety facts.
