The new investigative account

Nevada State Police released additional details October 6 about a rollover that killed a juvenile passenger on northbound Interstate 15 near Jean. News 3 reported that the crash happened around 6:19 a.m. October 4, north of mile marker 20.

According to the agency’s account, a Chevrolet Tahoe left the right travel lane, struck construction traffic barrels on the dirt shoulder and crossed the highway after the driver overcorrected. It then struck a concrete median barrier and rolled.

Passengers and the continuing investigation

Police said a juvenile passenger was ejected and died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. News 3 reported that the Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team was investigating.

The child’s identity was to be released by the coroner after family notification. This account does not speculate about the driver’s intent, impairment or criminal charges; the reviewed update did not establish those points.
